Loved the colour on the tin? Great. Now test it before you commit… 👀🎨

One of the easiest mistakes to make when choosing a furniture colour is assuming it will look exactly the same once it’s on the piece.

It often won’t.

The wood underneath, the amount of natural light, the room around it and even the time of day can completely change how a colour feels.

A soft green can suddenly look much darker.
A grey can start looking blue.
A warm cream can look far cooler than you expected.

✨ TOP TIP: If you’re choosing between a few shades, paint small test patches directly onto the piece and live with them for a little while before deciding.

Look at them:

☀️ In daylight
🌥️ In shade
💡 Under indoor lighting
🌙 And again in the evening

You might be surprised which one you keep coming back to.

Because sometimes the colour you were certain you wanted… is the first one you rule out. 😂

So before you paint the whole thing:

Test it. Walk away. Come back. Then decide. 🖌️✨

Don’t skip the boring bit! 😅

We know… cleaning and preparation aren’t exactly the glamorous part of a furniture transformation. You want to get straight to the colour, the beautiful details and the big reveal. 🎨✨

But good preparation can make the difference between a finish that looks lovely for a few weeks… and one that lasts.

Old furniture can carry years of polish, wax, grease, dust and mystery substances we probably don’t want to investigate too closely! 😂

✨ TOP TIP: Before painting, give your piece a really thorough clean and check the surface carefully.

Look for:

🧼 Old wax or polish
🔎 Loose or flaking finish
🪵 Damage that needs repairing
🖌️ Areas that may need sanding
🔩 Loose handles, hinges or joints

And don’t forget the bits nobody sees — drawer edges, underneath handles and those sneaky little corners!

It might not be the most exciting stage of a makeover, but rushing the preparation can cause paint to chip, peel or struggle to adhere properly later.

The prettier the finish you want, the more important the preparation underneath. ❤️

But that’s exactly why we love pieces like this at Le Hibou Chic in Bellac. 🦉💛

Because underneath something ordinary, dated or simply forgotten, there can be so much potential waiting to be discovered.

A fresh painted finish completely changed the look, while keeping the beautiful natural wooden worktop added warmth, contrast and character. 🪵✨

And then came the fun part…

🌿🦜 That tropical interior! 🦜🌿

Suddenly, a fairly traditional dresser became a real statement piece — colourful, individual and definitely not something you’ll find in every other home.

That’s what we love about upcycling.

It isn’t about making old furniture look new.

It’s about looking at what’s already there, seeing the possibilities and creating something that can be loved all over again. ❤️

What was once a beautiful old dresser has been given a whole new life — transformed into a unique bathroom piece with space for a beautiful basin. 💙

For this stunning makeover, @eternal_life_by_aleksandra created a beautiful palette of layered blues by mixing Lisbon Cobalt + Whipped Cream from the Nordic Chic Real Chalk Paint range. The result? Several gorgeous tones of blue, creating depth, character and that unmistakable handcrafted finish. 💙

To add even more texture and vintage charm, Scumble and CrackleTex by @ArtisanEnhancements were used — giving this piece its beautifully aged, timeworn character.

This is exactly what we love about furniture transformation: seeing an old piece become something completely new, useful and utterly beautiful. ♻️✨

Not every restoration starts with a vision… sometimes it starts with a conversation.

When this little telephone table arrived at the workshop, it had seen better days. Brown, dated and no longer wanted, it was destined to be forgotten.

Then something unexpected happened.

A customer came to me with a treasured box frame containing delicate handcrafted sugar flowers. The frame had been damaged beyond repair, and she was desperately looking for a way to protect these precious memories before they were lost forever.

Suddenly, this forgotten table had a purpose.

Instead of restoring it as a piece of furniture, we transformed it into something completely unique—a bespoke display cabinet designed especially to keep those sentimental flowers safe.

Finished in Nordic Chic Paint – Oslo Grey, professionally upholstered in a beautiful paisley fabric and topped with a glass display case, it now tells a completely different story.

This project reminded me that furniture restoration isn’t always about giving old furniture a new look…

Sometimes, it’s about giving cherished memories a forever home.

This beautiful pedestal arrived in a tired dark red finish, ready for a fresh start. After careful preparation, it was transformed using a soft sage green, with the carved details highlighted in warm metallic gold to bring out its elegant design.

Sometimes all a piece needs is a little imagination, patience and craftsmanship to reveal its true beauty.

Every restoration is unique, and that’s exactly what we love most about what we do.

D’un meuble oublié… à une nouvelle vie.

Ce joli piédestal est arrivé à l’atelier avec une ancienne finition rouge foncé, prêt à être transformé. Après une préparation minutieuse, il a retrouvé tout son charme grâce à un doux vert sauge, sublimé par des détails dorés qui mettent en valeur ses magnifiques moulures.

Parfois, il suffit d’un peu d’imagination, de patience et de savoir-faire pour révéler toute la beauté d’un meuble.

Chaque restauration est unique, et c’est ce qui rend notre métier si passionnant.

This lovely cabinet has just begun its journey, and it’s already getting the Le Hibou Chic treatment using our favourite Nordic Chic Paint. 🎨

The first photo shows how it arrived at the workshop, and the second gives you a little peek behind the scenes as the transformation gets underway.

Every brushstroke brings this piece one step closer to becoming something truly special.

It’s still a work in progress, so we’re keeping the final design a secret… for now! 🤫

D’une belle armoire traditionnelle en bois massif à une création entièrement personnalisée… voici l’une de mes réalisations préférées de l’année dernière.

Le plus beau dans ce projet ? Mon client m’a laissé une totale liberté de création. 🎨

J’ai pu choisir les couleurs, le design et les éléments décoratifs, et j’ai pris énormément de plaisir à donner vie à cette pièce unique.

Réalisée entièrement avec les peintures Nordic Chic Paint, cette armoire a été transformée en une création pleine de caractère, avec des détails peints à la main et de magnifiques touches dorées.

Chaque projet est différent, chaque meuble raconte une histoire, et c’est ce qui rend mon métier si passionnant.
